It was only 43 degrees out when we hit the trail. I was so enjoying summer but I know fall can be nice too, it's just the transition that is difficult. If Mom had put my jacket on yesterday, I'd have been all hot and bothered but today it felt great. Mom put on her heavy coat and off we went. We saw our first wolly bear caterpillar of the year today. I asked if he was related to the one we befriended last year but he said no, just from the same tribe. His markings were so evenly spaced, it was hard to predict how long of a winter we'll be having. I guess we will have to just wait and see.

Just as we were walking past the golf course I spotted a coyote having a grand time down on the greens. There wasn't a golfer in sight and I wanted so badly to run down and frolic with her for a bit but once again, Mom said no. I find it interesting that she always finds time to stop and chat when we run into one of her friends... I was hoping she'd at least snap a photo of the pretty girl but by the time she had pulled off her gloves and readied her camera, that little coyote was hiding in the bushes, just laughing at us. Much like this mornings caterpillar, that coyote and I must certainly be from the same tribe.
By the time we got home, we were both a bit chilly so can you guess who came to our rescue? It was our old friend, Puff! I hadn't heard from him for a while so I can only guess that he'd been away on vacation. Puff is a magical dragon that lives under our house. He is very well behaved and is always ready, willing and able to blow his hot breath up into every room of our home when things start to get cold. It feels so good and the cats love to sit right by the floor grates to better take it all in. Me, I'm happy to just curl up on my favorite fuzzy blankly and let it engulf me. Puff is a very, very good boy and a valuable member of our family.
I'm a happy and content little black pup, happy to just sit and bide my time, humming the words to Puff the Magic Dragon, quietly though because to be honest, I can't carry a tune, unlike Ozzy, my feline brother. Ozzy had a tremendous voice and no one can sing the Blues better than he can, so the rest of us don't even try. Life is good, and I hope yours is too. Here's to Fall in all her glory!

Stella
